GATE Exam Pattern 2023 – Types of Questions
GATE 2023 exam consists of three different types of questions:
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
- Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
- Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions

Negative Marking in GATE 2023
- There will be NO negative marking in NAT and MSQ questions.
- Although, there is Negative Marking for MCQ-type questions.

GATE Exam Pattern – Design of Questions
The questions are designed to examine the following abilities of a contender:
- Recall: Based on facts, principles, formulae, or laws of the discipline of the paper
- Comprehension: These questions will test the candidate’s understanding of the basics of his/her field
- Application: The candidate is expected to apply his / her knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning.
- Analysis And Synthesis: The candidate has to present data, diagrams, images, etc. that require analysis before a question can be answered.
