Physical Requirements To Become IPS Police Officer
Some of the special physical requirements for IPS are listed below. They are also subject to change as per UPSC notifications.
#1. HEIGHT
- For men, the minimum height is 165 cm
- For women, the minimum height is 150 cm
- For the candidates belonging to SC/ST and to the candidates belonging to the races such as Gorkhas, Garhwal is, Assamese, Kumaonis, Nagaland Tribals etc. , there is a relaxation of height up to 160 cum for men and 145cm for women.
#2. CHEST
The minimum chest fully expanded: 84 cm for men and 79 cm for a woman.
#3. EYESIGHT
- The total amount of Myopia (including the cylinder) should not exceed minus 4.00 D.
- The total amount of Hypermetropia (including the cylinder) should not exceed plus 4.00 D.
- Spectacles although are permitted, but a very good grade of color vision and binocular vision is a prerequisite.
- Eye sight should be between 6/6 and 6/9 and candidates who have weak eyesight must at least have 6/12 and 6/9.

Step 2: Additional Training At Facility (Government Training Centers)
After the completion of IPS Selection Procedure, contenders are selected for training of 3 months (July to September) in Mysore for Foundation course. In training section, contenders get knowledge about basic concept of Constitution of the country, History and Politics.
#1. Training At Hyderabad
First of all, they have to go for academic training at Hyderabad for the period of one year from October to September. Here candidates must learn about investigation, forensic science, crime prevention, human rights ethics, etc.
#2. Field Training (Outdoor Training)
- During training, candidates are also taken for the outdoor training in which they have to perform Parade, horse riding, swimming, climbing, and training of using arms.
- These are the basic training which is necessary to become an IPS officer.
#3. Practical Training
- After taking academic training at Hyderabad they are sent for another training for 6 months which is called practical training.
- In this training, candidates are taught writing FIR and working style of SP, CO, PAC, DGP headquarter and CID unit.
#4. End Of Training Session
After getting the training of 22 months, they are now appointed for the post of CO and after doing this job for one and half years they are promoted.
