What Qualification Is Required To Become An IAS Officer?

Candidate must be a citizen of India & hold a degree from Government recognized Universities or possess an equivalent qualification. Final year students can also apply for UPSC IAS Exam 2019.

IAS Eligibility Criteria 2019:

Candidate who wishes to sit for IAS Exam must know eligibility norms as prescribed.

Nationality:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India Or
  • A person of Indian origin who has relocated from Malawi, Uganda, Srilanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Pakistan,  Zambia, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

IAS Qualification Required 2019:

Applicants must hold a graduate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized university to apply for UPSC IAS Exam 2019.

More Details about IAS Eligibility Criteria 2019:

  • Participants, who are appearing in final year examination and waiting for their result, may apply for Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
  • At the time of Civil Services Main Examination, applicants must show their final year result
  • Applicants, who have done professional/ technical qualifications which recognized by Government equivalent to professional and technical degree, are also eligible to apply.
  • If applicants, who have completed final professional MBBS or other Medical Examination but have not completed their internship by the time of submission of their applications for Civil Services (Main) Examination, they will be temporarily admitted to the Examination. At the time of interview, applicants have to require producing original Degree or a certificate from the concerned competent authority of the University or Institute.

What is IAS Age Limit 2019?

  • There is an age limit set by IAS for candidates who will appear in the IAS 2019.
  • As per IAS Age Criteria, applicant must have attained 21 years of age but the upper limit of age limit is set on 32 years.
  • Also, applicant must be born not earlier than August 02, 1986 and not later than August 01, 1997 as per IAS Eligibility Criteria.

Relaxation in Age:

  • Those who belong to reserved category as Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe or Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe receives relaxation in age.
  • Aspirants domiciled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the period of January 01, 1981 to December 31, 1990 will be given relaxation of upto five years as per IAS Eligibility Criteria.
  • Relaxation of maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof, will be allotted.
  • Five years age relaxation is provided to the Candidates belonging to ex- servicemen including Commissioned officers.
