RRB NTPC Selection Procedure

There are multiple stages of assessment in RRB NTPC Recruitment. The entire selection process involves 1st Stage CBT, 2nd stage CBT followed by Typing Skill Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test (as applicable) and Document Verification/Medical Exam. Selection will be done strictly on a merit basis.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern: Stage-1 CBT

According to RRB NTPC Stage-1 Exam Pattern 2022, the Question Paper will include questions on Mathematics, Reasoning, and General Awareness. There will be a total of 100 questions and each question carry one mark. Check the detailed RRB NTPC Stage I CBT Exam Pattern 2022 in the table below:

RRB NTPC Stage-1 Exam Pattern: Important Points

  • The time duration to complete the exam for PWD candidates is extended to 120 minutes.
  • There will be a negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer.
  • 1st Stage CBT is of screening nature.
  • The total no. of candidates to be shortlisted shall be 20 times the community-wise vacancies of posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in 1st Stage CBT cum choice of posts.
  • The normalized score obtained from Stage 1 CBT will be considered for shortlisting of applicants for Stage 2 as per their merit.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern: Stage-2 CBT

RRB NTPC Stage-2 Exam Pattern: Important Points

  • PWD candidates are allowed 120 minutes to attempt the question paper.
  • There is a negative marking of 1/3 for every wrong answered question.
  • The difficulty level of questions will be different for the different levels of posts.
  • Normalization of marks will be performed.

RRB NTPC Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

(CBAT is only for those who have applied for Traffic Assistant and Station Master posts)

  • Qualifying marks: It is necessary to attain a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify.
  • This is applicable to all communities or categories of examinees. No relaxation in the minimum T- Score shall be provided.
  • To be considered eligible for the appointment as Traffic Assistant or Station Master, you will have to qualify in each of the test batteries of CBAT.
  • The CBAT will be set in English and Hindi language.
  • There will be no negative marking in CBAT.
  • Merit List will be prepared considering only those candidates who have qualified in the CBAT. 70% weightage for the 2nd Stage CBT marks while 30% weightage for CBAT marks will be considered to prepare the Merit List.

NTPC Exam Pattern: Typist Skill Test Scheme

  • Typing Skill Test will be conducted for Sr. Clerk-cum-Typist Post.
  • It is qualifying in nature.
  • Eight times the number of vacancies will be invited for typing skill test.
  • Applicants need to type 300 words at the minimum speed of 30 w.p.m. in English or 250 words at 25 w.p.m. in Hindi on a computer without editing tools and spell check facility.
  • The exam duration will be 10 minutes.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern: Medical Examination

Medical Standard Description
A-1 Physically fit in all respects.

  • Visual Standards – Distance Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses.
  • Near Vision: Sn: 0.6,0.6 without glasses (must clear fogging test) and must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision.
A-2 Physically fit in all respects.

  • Visual Standards – Distance vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses.
  • Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses and must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision.
A-3 Physically fit in all respects.

  • Visual Standards – Distance Vision: 6/9,6/9 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 2D).
  • Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses and must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision.
B-1 Physically fit in all respects.

  • Visual Standards – Distance Vision: 6/9,6/12 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 4D).
  • Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required and must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2022: Document Verification (DV)

Based on the performance in Stage 2 CBT or based on the score in both Stage 2 CBT & CBAT/TST (as applicable), candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for DV.
