Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission has categorized the total posts in different departments of State Government into three groups – Groups 1, 2, and 4. TNPSC conducts various group-wise recruitment/competitive examinations for filling up the Group 1, 2, and 4 Vacancies. Let’s discuss the group-wise TNPSC Exam Pattern 2023:

TNPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern

The TNPSC Group 1 Exam is conducted in three stages:

  • Stage 1: Prelims Exam
  • Stage 2: Mains Exam
  • Stage 3: Interview

TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam Pattern:

There are two sections in the TNPSC Group 1 Prelims 2023 exam – General Studies, and Aptitude & Mental Ability. Each question from both sections has a weightage of 1.5 marks. Candidates will be permitted 180 minutes to complete the exam. There is NO negative marking in Prelims.

TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam Pattern:

TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern

The TNPSC Group 2 Exam also has 3 phases of assessment: Prelims, Mains, and Interview. The services are divided into Group 2 and Group 2A. The interview round is conducted for only Group 2 posts while there is no interview for Group 2A posts.

Those who have applied for Interview posts under TNPSC Group 2 Recruitment 2023 will have to appear for an interview carrying 40 marks after clearing the Mains. After successful completion of the Interview round, only the selected candidates will be given the final offer letter.

TNPSC Group 4 Exam Pattern

The combined TNPSC Group 4 Exam is conducted by Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC) every year to recruit candidates in the following state services:

TNPSC Group 4 is an objective type exam, a single paper of 300 marks which has two types such as:

  • The first type of paper will contain 75 questions on General Studies, 25 questions on Aptitude Test, and 100 questions on General English.
  • The second type of paper will contain 75 questions on General Studies, 25 questions on Aptitude Test, and 100 questions on General Tamil.
  • Candidates can choose General English or General Tamil as per their choice.
